Despite being put through the rock-and-roll ringer, the dress fared much better than the woman who wore it on the cover of Newsweek and Time.

Joplin had apparently salvaged them from a fan-gifted bouquet in her dressing room her friend Linda Gravenites helped build out the rest of the baby-doll silhouette with black crushed velvet. A dress worn by Janis Joplin at the 1968 Newport Folk Festival was up for auction, and the beaded flowers across the bodice caught my eye. They made the reading worthwile and I'll most probably return to this little town in the future to see what happened to the rest of them.On a Tuesday in April, as I began rerouting my walks to catch the neighborhood cherry tree in peak form, a different set of blossoms turned up at Sotheby’s. They were, for the most part, sweet bunch of flawed human beings who strugled to make a life for themselves. I suppose it only lacks alien abduction.Aside from the long chain of tragedies befalling our two heroes, it was a well written story.I actually cared about the characters, all of them, even the horses. What didn't happen to them? We have abusive parents, homofobic neighbours, war, flood, sickness.

Review 2: So much angst in one book.I think the main charactes were cursed. Really good story, and the ending was very sweet, and I am SO glad it ended like it did!!! She is such an angry teen, but he's not willing to give up on her, unlike her parents.

I liked that he helped Cricks sister, and I loved how they played off each other. He learns alot while Crick is gone, not all of it pleasant. Deacon has to deal with so much, and all of it on his own, or so he thinks. more for them both, but in some ways I think it as easier for Crick. When Crick thinks Deacon doesnt want him the same way, he enlists in the army, and is in Iraq for the next 2 years. These two go through SO much to be together, it was literally like one thing would happen, then 3 more bad things would follow. Crick feels the same way, but they're both so young, that they're just happy to be together having fun on Deacons ranch. Deacon is older, and he knows instantly that he loves Crick, but he's willing to wait as long as it takes. And neither of them has had an easy life, but through it all they love each other. Review 1: I dont think I've ever been more relieved to know that everything was going to be ok than I was when I finished this book! The two main characters know each other from when they were very young.
